About The Joffers' House
In
1950, two single ladies commissioned the building of the property that
is today called The Joffers' (a variation of the Dutch term for 'Miss',
'de juffrouw').
One of the sisters was a teacher at the
local village school. They built their house next to the school and
thus through the years saw many of the village's youngsters pass their
window.
The sisters came from a noble family and spent their childhood in Castle Ooyen, in the neighbouring hamlet of Ooyen.
The
family sold the castle before the war began, and when their new villa
next to the castle was bombed, the sisters had The Joffers' House built
in the village centre.
The present owner of The Joffers'
House also spent her childhood in Castle Ooyen and when The Joffers'
House became available to buy in the summer of 2001, this 'shared
experience' with the 'Joffers' sisters was, therefore, also one of her
reasons for buying the house.
Although she lives in London
at present, she still feels a very strong tie to her 'roots' here in
Broekhuizenvorst. As she says herself:
|
'It
is wonderful for me to be able to share this beautiful house, my
village and my region with you, and I hope that you too will enjoy this
oasis of quietness and comfort. Mieke Kruijsen will be your host and her enthusiasm and warmth will undoubtedly help
to make you feel 'at home' in The Joffers' House.'
